Viva el Tango

Art is often more than what meets the eye. Sometimes it shows us a world that is not like our own – a world where the impossible becomes possible, where opposites unite and merge into something entirely new. A perfect example is this painting: the skeleton of a cat and that of a horse, dancing the tango together. But why would these two creatures, of all things, engage in such an intimate, passionate dance?

The tango is a dance of tension, seduction, and control. Two opposing forces meet – leading and following, always balanced on the edge between closeness and distance. In my painting, the skeletal figures of a cat and a horse come together, two animals that, in reality, have almost nothing in common. The cat represents agility, elegance, and independence. It is playful yet mysterious, almost weightless. The horse, on the other hand, embodies strength, grounding, and steadfastness. It is large and majestic, while the cat is small and nimble. So what could possibly connect these two very different creatures?

The dance in the painting represents not just a physical connection, but also a symbolic one. The horse in its elegant suit and the cat in its striking red shoes could symbolize the fusion of order and chaos – the eternal balancing act between different aspects of life. Their skeletons, a stark contrast to the vitality typically associated with the tango, turn the dance into a play with mortality. In the world of art, even the dead can dance, and the rigid boundaries of life and reality can blur.

Why a cat and a horse? Perhaps because art shows us that even the most improbable things can harmonize. The tango between these skeletons reminds us that opposites don’t have to divide; in their union, they can create something fascinating. Just as the cat and horse are united in this surreal moment, the opposing sides within ourselves can also come together through the dance of life – elegant, powerful, and always a bit unpredic

table.
